Apparently Michelle Bachman is causing quite a stir because
of some comments she has made regarding Huma Abedin, an assistant to the
Secretary of State. The comments and the
story are quite unimportant to me – this is what politics is reduced to when a
voice like Ron Paul’s is squelched.
However, I find the following statement by John McCain quite
interesting:
Wednesday, Sen. John McCain rose to
Abedin’s defense on the floor of the Senate, not naming Bachmann, but clearly
aiming fire in her direction. "When anyone, not least a member of
Congress, launches specious and degrading attacks against fellow Americans on
the basis of nothing more than fear of who they are and ignorance of what they
stand for, it defames the spirit of our nation, and we all grow poorer because
of it," McCain said.
Let’s try it another way:
When anyone, not least a member of Congress, launches
specious and degrading attacks against fellow human beings on the basis of
nothing more than fear of who they are and ignorance of what they stand for, it
defames the spirit of the attacker, and we all grow poorer because of it….
This sums up American foreign policy and attitude toward the
Middle East. The statement is funny coming from John McCain. The results of this attitude are not funny.
