The Wide Path

Matthew 7:13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

It’s that time of year: Christmas parties, Happy New Year, get-togethers with family and friends.  In other words, a dangerous time for a screwball like me.

There is one upcoming party in particular.  If only I was a Hillary supporter; if only I could pretend to be.  If only I could say Trump is a disaster when compared to Hillary.  It is a no-risk proposition, not only at this party but in most “polite” circles.

When the alternative is Trump, it is so easy to be a Hillary supporter in this world – it is the wide path.

Matthew 23:27 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. 28 In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness.

This recent election has laid bare the inside of the tomb – dead bones and everything unclean.  We see the inside of the beautiful people.  If the run-up to the election wasn’t enough, the post-election activities of the losers would remove any doubt.

The obvious – even to the laziest observer: Hillary wants war against Russia; the DNC cheated for Hillary and against Bernie, Bill and Hillary sold out the United States and millions of innocents in the Middle East and North Africa for a few shekels of silver deposited in the accounts of their foundation; foreigners funded Hillary’s election campaign to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars; pointless recounts solely intended to discredit the winner.

Eliminate the Electoral College; death threats to Trump electors; Republicans and Democrats lined up against Trump.

You will understand the difficulty I will have at this one specific party.  The hosts – as educated a couple as you will find on earth – will be blind to all of this.  What will their view consist of?  Putin swung the election to Trump.

Conclusion

Matthew 7:15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.

I recall a well-known libertarian (of some sort) authoring a treatise on how to talk liberty.  A few of his key points?

·        Don’t Presume Hatred of Liberty

·        Don’t Presume Different Goals

·        Don’t Presume Ignorance

·        Don’t Regard Anyone as an Enemy

I disagreed then, I disagree even more strongly today.  No one should be fooled.  If events over the last months haven’t removed the scales from the blind regarding the complete bias of the political machine – not democrats vs. republicans, but the neocon-elite vs. the rest of us – nothing will remove these scales (and my point is not that Trump is against the neocon-elite; I don’t know if he is or isn’t – and the “elite” are not, in any case, monolithic.  My point is that those who voted for Trump believe he is against the neocon-elite). 

Anyone on the other side is either too stupid or purposely joining evil.  They do hate liberty; they do have different goals; some of them may very well be ignorant.  They are our enemy.

This is what I am walking into later this week.  I am trying to look at it as an opportunity to develop my discipline; keep my mouth shut!  I think more and more in the coming years this skill will be necessary to display in public.
