Palm Sunday Revisited *

* I hope that you realize that this is a work of fiction.

We read in the Gospels of Palm Sunday.  The story goes something like this:

As they approached Jerusalem and came to Bethphage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.

The disciples replied: Lord, you don’t get it.  The entire city is in lockdown; someone sneezed and no one is allowed to enter or exit.  Jesus looked up to the Father, saying, see the material I have to work with?

After rebuking His disciples, he again commanded them, saying, If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’”

They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it, some people standing there asked, Why aren’t you wearing masks and gloves?  Show us your papers! They answered not as Jesus had told them to, but instead said that the Romans gave them permission.  The people let them go.

When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. No one came out to meet Him, as everyone was required to shelter in place.

Jesus entered a silent Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was past curfew no one was out.

Jesus prayed to the Father, saying, How am I to proceed with the events for this week?  No one is prepared.  Maybe we should wait until next year, and see if the Romans allow me to properly enter Jerusalem.
