Roll Over Beethoven

Chuck Berry has died.  Ninety years old.

A guitar style like no other; when you heard Chuck Berry play, you knew it was Chuck Berry.

For his time, completely revolutionary.  There is a thread that passes from blues to rock and roll.  Some say it passed through Elvis.  It can just as easily be said that it passed through Chuck.

  1. "Born in 1926 to a middle class family." Did black people achieve middle class back then? I never knew. To hear it today, living was hell back then for minorities. Had a job in a auto-assembly plant in the early 50s. (They could get jobs?!?)

"By the end of the 1950s, Berry was an established star with several hit records, film appearances and a lucrative touring career." What?!? Impossible. Racists don't listen to other races, much less watch them on the big screen.

Arrested 3 times in life: Armed Robbery, convicted under the Mann Act for under-age sex, and tax evasion.

Armed robbery - three years. Pretty straight forward.

Mann Act - three years. Now here's an interesting one, especially when one reads the description, by leftist feminists at the time, of the foreign influences within this country who trap and traffic young unsuspecting women into a life of prostitution and drugs. Very bigoted and racist to accuse foreigners...

"What is really the cause of the trade in women? Not merely white women, but yellow and black women as well. Exploitation, of course; the merciless Moloch of capitalism that fattens on underpaid labor, thus driving thousands of women and girls into prostitution. With Mrs. Warren these girls feel, 'Why waste your life working for a few shillings a week in a scullery, eighteen hours a day?'... Whether our reformers admit it or not, the economic and social inferiority of woman is responsible for prostitution." - Emma Goldman

Today we read of Moloch's complicity within the big government deep state. Poor demon can't seem to catch a break.

And what would an act of congress be without mission creep and SCOTUS precedents?

"Although the law was created to stop forced sexual slavery of women, the most common use of the Mann Act was to prosecute men for having sex with under-age females. The phrase "immoral purpose" in the statute allowed an extremely broad application of the law following the United States Supreme Court ruling in Caminetti v. United States (1917), which held that "illicit fornication" even when consensual constituted an "immoral purpose."" - Wikipedia

Finally, Berry would only take cash for his appearances later in life, so back to prison he went for 4 months on charges of tax evasion. In this effort, Mr. Berry inspires.

All that with good music throughout. Well played.
