The Fog Slowly Lifts…

…very, very slowly…in my brain, at least.

I refer to the events in Berkeley about ten days ago: Trump supporters planned an event; antifa crashed the event and began their chaotic violence.  As I felt at the time, the news to me was not so much the news; the news was how the news was covered.

I wrote something on the events the day after, based on a report from the Los Angeles Times.   The Times placed the blame on the left and antifa, and not on the right and Trump supporters (aka fascists, Nazis).  This was quite surprising to me at the time, considering the completely opposite narrative a couple of weeks earlier after Charlottesville.

The piece from the Times was the first I saw that morning (via Google News, I think – another interesting curve).  But by the time I published my piece, I noticed that other mainstream outlets were posting the same story – the same way: it was the left, it was antifa.  I think the second report I saw was from the Washington Post – again, a rather surprising source for such a narrative to be offered.  Then, the floodgates opened.

It was clear something had changed – it was clear a memo went out.  But I couldn’t make heads or tails out of it.

One of the better bits of analysis on this that I read, early on (a couple of days after the event), was by a regular commenter at this blog: Unhappy Conservative (2.0) August 29, 2017 at 3:00 PM.  I will only summarize, and poorly, his analysis: the violence of the left is being used as a tool to crush all dissent – right and left; no peaceful protest will be allowed by anyone, because of the violence.

I certainly have not done UC’s comments service; if you haven’t read these, it would be a worthwhile two minutes of your time.

My thoughts came around to the view that the right won’t complain about this, because the initial crushing of dissent will be against the violent left; of course, those same tools will then be turned on everyone (right included) who has a grievance against the system (which is…the right).  The right will, in the meantime, cheer on the crackdown on the violent left…until it is too late.

A friend recently sent me an analysis that outlines this much better than I could – and corresponds well with the thoughts raised by UC: Globalists will throw Antifa to the wolves to further their agenda, written by Brandon Smith and published at Personal Liberty.  I will offer only a couple of cites; if this is of interest to you, it is worth reading the entire piece.

To summarize, the goal of the establishment is to use extreme leftist groups like a short stick to prod the real tiger — conservative movements. The goal, I believe, is to enrage liberty champions to the point that they are willing to “bend the rules” and rationalize the abandonment of their morals in order to defeat what they think is a great evil.

…eventually there will be Antifa groups that are directly trained by government agencies to commit terrorist acts…

In the meantime, the Trump administration is playing its part by preparing the ground for a future martial law-style crackdown.

Again, as I have said all along, the real target has always been conservatives. Conservative principles are the primary threat to globalism.

Getting conservatives to embrace all manner of violations in order to crack down on the violent left may be the best way to get buy-in for the globalist system from the very people who protested at the ballot box against the globalist system on November 8, 2016.

Conclusion

Read Brandon Smith’s piece.  And thank you, Unhappy Conservative, for seeing much of this early on.

  1. Speaking of Charlottesville, it appears that Heather Heyer, the woman that president Trump prejudicially said was murdered by James Fields, was probably never even hit by any car.

One thing that is immediately apparent is that she looks nothing like the photos disseminated by the media (shades of Trayvon Martin). The chain smoking, looking for violence Heather Heyer is a far less sympathetic figure.

The cat is out of the bag about the cause of death (heart attack), which was concealed by the media. There was not even one article describing an autopsy or cause of death.

    1. Matt,

That doesn't surprise me at all. Thanks for sharing. Call me a conspiracy theorist - if such a term is good enough for Rothbard, it's good enough me.

  2. Long time reader first time commenter. Lee Rockwell got me here.

This is very interesting. My millennial experience relates this to Star Wars. This is exactly what happened in the Star Wars prequels. Darth Sidious/Palpatine creates an enemy, gets the government to give him authority and the power to destroy the enemy and then takes control with that power.

Further, this is very similar to how the military industrial complex uses terrorist groups. We know this playbook. Create isis and demand the power to destroy isis.

  3. Rothbard wrote a short article back in the '60s titled "The Coming American Fascism."

    https://mises.org/library/never-dull-moment/html/c/491

He says the U.S. military-industrial-bureaucratic complex is essentially a fascist regime. If today's Antifa had any sense, they'd be protesting against the real fascists - the deep state - rather than a couple hundred neo-Nazis who have absolutely zero power.

    1. Then surely they wouldn't allow communists like John Brennen into the CIA.....oh wait

    2. Ha. Rothbard meant fascism in the sense of a cozy corporate-banking-bureaucratic alliance. I don't see that being incompatible with communism, at least the "transitional" stage before the state mythically "withers" away. Fascism and communism are two sides of the same collectivist coin. And, of course, the deep state isn't monolithic. I'm sure there's plenty of infighting. And posturing. And smoke and mirrors.

Basically every label fails once you get high enough in the shadowy ranks except one: satanism.

    3. UC, thanks for the blazing insight and read into what is really going on with the weakstream media attacks on Antifa. Makes great sense. I appreciate the enlighentment.

P.S. -- you may want to revisit your avatar (the article title is provocative for folks who are new to Miles' writings, but his work is always well worthwhile):

This article on Gibson is disturbing. I will look into it further.

  6. Conservatives & alt rights have hit the panic button over social media censorship / demonitization. But it seems that people on the non establishment left are having similar problems.
I think that filtering out non "moderates" and returning to the gatekeeper glory days of network TV is the establishment plan.
The alt right guys have a plan - create your own platform. There's even a fledgling name for this - alt-platform.
About all anybody else is doing is finding other hosts, eg Iceland.

  7. This essay, "The Fog is Lifting" is the most thought provoking, and illuminating, article that I have recently read. The argument makes sense, and the conclusions are depressing. BTW, a group of us at Fordham (myself excepted, mostly Lefties) signed a petition years ago protesting John Brennan as University commencement speaker. Although Bill Cosby's role as commencement speaker was retroactively revoked, no action against Brennan's presence ever ensued. This week Brennan was made the first Distinguished Professor of National Security at the Fordham Law School, probably the first Deep State denizen at the Law School. I am not holding my breath waiting for a faculty protest this time around.

  8. Most thought provoking essay: illuminated for me the strategy behind the appearances. BTW, a group of faculty (except yours truly, Lefties), a few years ago, petitioned the Fordham Administration to withdraw its invitation to John Brennan to serve as Commencement speaker. Despite retroactively rescinding Bill Cosby's Commencement speaker title and honorary doctorate, no such action was taken against Mr. Brennan. This week Mr. Brennan was appointed Distinguished Professor of National Security Studies, what I call the Deep State Endowed Chair, the first such occupant. I am not holding my breath to wait for a similar faculty protest.
