Trump Announces He Will be a One-Term President



Assuming he makes it that long.

I think all democrats and neocon republicans (in other words, most republicans) can call off the dogs; Trump has resolved the problem of Trump as President:

President Donald Trump has gone public with his war against the House Freedom Caucus, pushing into full view growing frustration shared by House Speaker Paul Ryan less than a week after the GOP health care bill crashed amid feuding between rival Republican factions.

Trump is joining the Ryan team; swimming in the swamp.

"The Freedom Caucus will hurt the entire Republican agenda if they don't get on the team, & fast. We must fight them, & Dems, in 2018!" Trump tweeted.

I didn’t realize that there was a republican agenda; more than half of the republicans have the agenda to dump Trump.  I suspect most of Trump’s supporters wanted “repeal,” not “replace.”  At least that would be consistent with “Drain the Swamp.”

…if members stand in Trump's way, he'll ditch them -- and conservative principles entirely -- and go looking for Democratic help.

Mmmm.  Is it possible for Trump to win in 2020 running as a democrat?

Conclusion

Trump will soon turn off most of his supporters.  They may then decide to elect a real dictator, or perhaps just take matters into their own hands.

But today Trump announced he will be a one-term president.

    Rand Paul / Justin Amish. If they really tried, they could win at the Repub convention for 2020. Rand has to back away from the pandering he did in the last go-round. But Jesse is dead, right? So...hope.

    Hitching his wagon to him is probably the worst possible thing he could do.

    Not shocking. But why beach the ship on the healthcare sandbag. There's little Trump can do about it as they will never get 60 Senators of either Party to go along with it. How about stopping WWIII by stopping McCain and CO from putting every ex-commie nation on Earth in NATO.

      Obamacare is a symbol. It is my view that any republican voting against a straight repeal bill would be vulnerable in two years. Vulnerable in the primaries, not the general.

      If they never expect to get 60 in the senate, or otherwise circumvent the process where a majority is enough, it makes no difference.

      Obamacare is a symbol of everything that those who backed Trump voted against. If Trump isn't will to strike at the symbol, what is the point?

    In the meantime, General Flynn has asked for immunity in exchange for testimony. While the tale about the Russians under the bed is nonsense, Trump is about to learn a lesson in politics and why you should not throw people under the bus.

      If you think we've been had, you don't know why many of us voted for Trump. He's more of a weapon in the culture war than anything else.
      Im pleased with the Freedom Caucus, we get another conscious front in this proto or pre-proto revolution.
      Diversification! Anywhere a lefty turns he'll see a different threat...paranoia..this makes me laugh.
      "Maybe then they'll elect a real dictator" I imagine UC grinning and this makes me laugh....nervously.

      FM, you are spot on regarding reasons many supported Trump. He questioned virtually every sacred cow of this age - something no one else running for president has done in my lifetime.

      Even if he accomplishes not one meaningful thing beyond this, he has opened a door.

      Dave P: Most votes for Trump, like mine, is because we were tired of being had all these years.

      Audit the Fed, End the Fed.
      Abolish the Income Tax.
      Repeal the 17th amendment, and require that senators be appointed by the legislatures of the states.
      Abolish the five D. C. departments Ron Paul named in 2008 and 2012, then keep going.
      Enshrine the natural right of states to go independent, and for people in state borders to separate from the states.
      Repeal the legislation known as Roe v. Wade.

      Codevilla envisions the dictator, I paraphrase: the people who elected Trump know what they want and they don't care what it takes to get it. If Trump doesn't give it to them, they will find someone who will.

    Meanwhile, we 0bamacare victims are still suffering under the largest tax increase on the middle class in history, which is what 0-care is. 0-care has effectively cut me off from any access to medical care.

    I supported Trump--first time I have voted Republican since 1960! He started off good but I can't agree with him on his Freedom Caucus stand. I thought Ryan's "Obama-lite" replacement was terrible and it only proves what I have long contended--that the Republican establishment wants Obamacare as much as the Democrats do. I am glad the Freedom Caucus stood up to it.

    ALL this fighting between the parties and in the parties just goes to show everyone that will LOOK....there is ONLY one party and they are paid to preform by the same masters...AND the country and its working citizens get trashed...PS...Repeal obamacare will never happen...just follow the money from the insurance companies and see how much each politician got...dem/repub....in your face....imho
