The mandates were rescinded but establishments continued to enforce it. Thats a cowardly way by which government sloughs off its evil upon private enterprise to enforce. If you can "mandate" that everyone be forced to wear a mask against all common sense then you can equally mandate that no one can be forced to wear one. The excuse of "well, thats a private business decision" is laughable. Private businesses never mandated wearing masks prior to the plandemic, and any that did would have been mercilessly mocked for even suggesting as much, so by what stretch of a twisted imagination do they believe they're warranted now when even their cowardly overlords say they're not required? Hmmm?InnerCynichttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14814762218474727580noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648884752216444797.post-40554782479701325882021-05-15T15:26:06.851-07:002021-05-15T15:26:06.851-07:00Patrick, the only place I see hope is through the ...Patrick, the only place I see hope is through the church. As usual, you have zeroed in o...Christ is risen!
As usual, you have zeroed in on an issue that has been bothering me, and others: the silence of the institutional Church regarding essential matters. I received a mailing from the hierarchs of my jurisdiction expressing worry about the implications of Federal legislation on transgender issues for religious freedom. Indeed, they ought to worry. But, as we know, it is only when the water is boiling that the frog gets worried. As a classical liberal I have learned to appreciate Tocqueville's reflections upon civil society in America. Mere constitutional provisions will not keep the State in check: only a vibrant, robust civil society can do so. I thought the Church to be an important part of that robustness. No way. I had long ago given up on the criminally expensive propaganda organ I work for: the university. On the left, Gramsci also appreciated civil society as an instrument for revolutionary change. Is it yet possible to recapture civil society? Or instead move to Florida, South Dakota or Hungary?Deacon Patrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07708653111827647244noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648884752216444797.post-62439224384355265212021-05-15T06:51:17.377-07:002021-05-15T06:51:17.377-07:00ATL,

If the situation is disheartening for you, what would you have to do personally to change it for the better?

I am not looking nor asking for any reply to these questions. Just planting a seed of introspection.

As an aside, Montana law has just forbidden any County Health Board or local governing entity from ordering that businesses MUST require masks for entry of customers. Businesses CANNOT be forced to police the "mask mandates" imposed. The use of masks can be recommended, but MAY NOT be required.

https://legiscan.com/MT/text/HB257/2021

Missoula County/City Health Board had to rescind it's ordinance publicly and immediately the signs came off the doors of many, probably most, businesses. It's only the fear of becoming an outcast or simply receiving dirty looks in public or having to partake in uncomfortable conversations with strangers.

Here in San Antonio, there is often a sign outside every establishment that masks are required, and nearly everyone heeds it. I mostly wear a mask in smaller establishments, but when I go to the grocery store I don't and nearly everyone else is wearing a mask. To HEB's credit, their staff has never been rude to me and they have never harassed me about it. I've also never been confronted by another patron. So there is literally no social cost for not wearing a mask and yet almost everybody still does. The situation is very disheartening. Here is Romans 13:1-8 Do...Anybody fluent in Latin?

Here is Romans 13:1-8 Douay-Rheims (18th century Fr Challoner version) with the Clementine Latin Vulgate (4th century)

[1] Let every soul be subject to higher powers: for there is no power but from God: and those that are, are ordained of God. Omnis anima potestatibus sublimioribus subdita sit : non est enim potestas nisi a Deo : quae autem sunt, a Deo ordinatae sunt.

[2] Therefore he that resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God. And they that resist, purchase to themselves damnation. Itaque qui resistit potestati, Dei ordinationi resistit. Qui autem resistunt, ipsi sibi damnationem acquirunt :

[3] For princes are not a terror to the good work, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? Do that which is good: and thou shalt have praise from the same. nam principes non sunt timori boni operis, sed mali. Vis autem non timere potestatem? Bonum fac : et habebis laudem ex illa :

[4] For he is God's minister to thee, for good. But if thou do that which is evil, fear: for he beareth not the sword in vain. For he is God's minister: an avenger to execute wrath upon him that doth evil. Dei enim minister est tibi in bonum. Si autem malum feceris, time : non enim sine causa gladium portat. Dei enim minister est : vindex in iram ei qui malum agit.

[5] Wherefore be subject of necessity, not only for wrath, but also for conscience' sake. Ideo necessitate subditi estote non solum propter iram, sed etiam propter conscientiam.

[6] For therefore also you pay tribute. For they are the ministers of God, serving unto this purpose. Ideo enim et tributa praestatis : ministri enim Dei sunt, in hoc ipsum servientes.

[7] Render therefore to all men their dues. Tribute, to whom tribute is due: custom, to whom custom: fear, to whom fear: honour, to whom honour. Reddite ergo omnibus debita : cui tribulatum, tributum : cui vectigal, vectigal : cui timorem, timorem : cui honorem, honorem.

[8] Owe no man any thing, but to love one another. For he that loveth his neighbour, hath fulfilled the law. Nemini quidquam debeatis, nisi ut invicem diligatis : qui enim diligit proximum, legem implevit

7 says render all men their dues. 8 says owe no man anything but love, because love fulfills the law. It doesn't say anything about paying taxes fulfilling the law!

http://drbo.org/drl/chapter/52013.htmA Texas Libertarianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02980539931923054404noreply@blogger.com
