I brought up Fr. Dempsey's book INTEREST & USURY (1942) and that he was favorable to some of von Mises's views. Then Rothbard mentioned that the Catholic Church was the greatest defender of liberty in the Middle Ages. He also had favorable comments about Pius XI and his encyclical QA. Then he made a comment that the Jews played an important role in the rise of Communism in Russia. This was the first I heard about their role in Communism's rise. Your essay also brought to mind a conversation that I had with Rose Wilder Lane in 1958?59? at the Freedom School in Colorado run by Robt Lefevre. Years later I learned that she was the one of the founders of the Libertarian Party and that after her stint at Freedom School she was a war correspondent from Vietnam. This grandmotherly figure never struck me as being a 'libertine'! I was impressed with her grasp of Poland's history. It is interesting to see the problems of society described from a different angle but very complimentary to what I am reading.

To see a little of the explanation of how we got to this secularized reality or at least another perspective on it take a look at the link.

https://thecrosssectionrmb.blogspot.com/2020/12/how-should-we-then-live-chapter-8.html

Schaeffer is tracking the same types of things as De Noce but from a Reformed perspective. This article focuses on science. However the science is following the philosophy. He describes the what and how, but necessarily the why. Of course there may be no answer as to the why except to appeal to the influence the sinful flesh and the devil.RMBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13603112499567064214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648884752216444797.post-80691775829813541862020-12-30T07:24:53.263-08:002020-12-30T07:24:53.263-08:00Nailed it!
