On the one hand by the envy of the have-nots vis-a-vis the haves, and on the other hand by the abuse of power by the powerful."

These two groups seem to work together in a somewhat symbiotic manner to get what they want, but it is always the powerful who gain the most. There are innumerable "small" people who are envious and provide the muscle for those who direct them. The "leaders" may be envious as well, but it is more likely the lust for power which drives them more than the desire to see someone else taken down.

Unfortunately, those who are the least powerful always gain the least. In fact, they may not be any better off materially than before, but gain only personal satisfaction knowing that they did their part to destroy others.

What is important to remember is that both the powerful and the envious work to destroy the productive, independent, self-sufficient persons who form the base of any successful society. This appears to have been a problem throughout the entirety of human history.

"Who can stand before envy?" -- Proverbs 27:4Rogernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648884752216444797.post-70657561915286286942024-03-16T08:36:39.082-07:002024-03-16T08:36:39.082-07:00Ordered. They reject universal values and substitute them for subjective, even racial, interests. Ideas or ideology are looked down upon. Pragmatism is the focus. It is basically "might makes right", so the goal is to have more might and impose your own right. They speak of Christianity as a solution, but their definition sounds more like Christendom and tradition than anything else. Christendom was better than what we have today, but Christendom fell because Christianity was removed from its center. True biblical Christianity teaches morality but also grace, order but also forgiveness, community but also impartiality. The Bible also teaches the importance of individuals and reason too. But not in the way atheists or post-libertarians do.RMBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13603112499567064214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648884752216444797.post-81072492957875139272024-03-12T06:46:34.117-07:002024-03-12T06:46:34.117-07:00That's very powerful stuff. It is encouraging and discouraging to me at the same time that people like Dostoevsky, Lewis, and many others understood the decline of our culture as it was happening. They also knew the solution. Dostoevsky points to repentance and forgiveness before God. CS Lewis pointed to natural law, the dao, as living out God's designed life for humanity with the chief directive of worshipping God.
They both rejected materialist, rationalist, individualism, in other words atheism.

The discouraging part is that they weren't able to turn the tide. We haven't forgotten names like Dostoevsky, Lewis, or Chesterton, but we, I should really say our elites, haven't learned their lessons or implemented their solutions. Instead we get CRT, LGBT+, and the covid regime. These are all fruit of nihilism, materialism, rationalism, individualism (atomistic). All of which have crept in to churches and many church leaders don't have the will to expunge it.

https://thecrosssectionrmb.blogspot.com/RMBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13603112499567064214noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648884752216444797.post-23963422175644608092024-03-04T19:13:56.371-08:002024-03-04T19:13:56.371-08:00This may shed some light on the reason why the pea...This may shed some light on the reason why the peasants revolted and how radical the Anabaptist movement really was.
https://www.dailyhistory.org/What_was_the_impact_of_the_German_Peasant_War_(1524-1527)_on_the_Reformation
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648884752216444797.post-44901807244395329632024-03-04T16:27:25.533-08:002024-03-04T16:27:25.533-08:00It literally breaks my heart what is askec for in ...It literally breaks my heart what is askec for in the name of God. Voltaire was a deist...like some of the Founders obviously. Jefferson being the most well known of them I suppose, but yet his unpublished works were focused on Jesus. Therein lies the dilemma....how you deal with the incongruity of "reason" versus the notion that a Biblical idea of "God" exists(or any other "god" based philosophy) as being "truth". Religion is about "control" to some extent....the question is the "good" and "bad" associated with it setting aside the question of divinity itself. I'm a qausi deist myself, but I fully understand that religion(or lack thereof) establishes some cultural underpinnings that determine societal outcomes in many areas.

What a dilemma.....I can easily understand "insanity" as a response in thinking about it too much.Nick Badalamentihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14015961786370759940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-648884752216444797.post-19866862880295427102024-02-26T11:53:51.796-08:002024-02-26T11:53:51.796-08:00I read somewhere that Western elites officially be...I read somewhere that Western elites officially became atheist after the earthquake in Lisbon in 1755. They started de-converting from Christianity before that of course, and of course not all elites were atheist after that year. But, elite circles were categorically and publicly atheist from then on. So this part of the book is a little more than 100 years after that.

I didn't realize that intellectuals like Wagner and Nietzsche were that directly against Christianity. I thought it was more about indifference towards God and putting their hope in science. But this really clears the picture. These men were against Christ consciously. But I think they misunderstand history a bit and over simplify it. Yes a certain ethnic group was influential in the Bolshevik movement. But Stalin was Georgian. He kicked that ethnic group out along with Georgians and made the CCCP a Russian party. It was still anti-human and evil. FDR was old money American and he followed the same policy as Stalin. All you have to do is enforce laws. Punish evil doers. Show impartiality under the law. If that is somehow not enough use natural law as the dividing line. Natural law defines what a human is. If a person attacks natural law itself then that person commits crimes against humanity and at some point ceases to be human themselves. We are seeing a post-human movement. But only humans possess natural rights. Non-humans don't. Humans should act accordingly to protect themselves.

Yeah.
